Network Adaptor problems....

I recently bought a refurbished PS2, the PS2 Hard drive, and a brand new network adaptor for it; but when I hooked everything up, the PS2 won't allow me to use Final Fantasy 11 on the hard drive. The browser shows that everything is connected, but when I try to access the Playonline Viewer, the screen goes black, and goes back to the ps2 browser. Is there something I can do to the hardware so that I won't have to send it off to the tech guys at Sony, and have them fix it? I've opened my old PS2 and put it back together perfectly before, so I'm not afraid to opperate.
