PS2 Menu/Adam's and Tom's HDD Loader

I bought a modded ps2 from a local game store not too long ago. It was modded with ps2menu v2.6b, which required a memory card, and startup disc. Recently the hdloader and ps2menu will not start up. It goes to the initial loading menu and then stops there. What is the issue, and how can I fix it. Thanks so much.
