Serial remote debugging output

Could someone who has done investigation on the serial data on the remote try monitoring the psp update process on that port? Does it give the opportunity to reset to default firmware?

I'd like to be able to keep my options open in case a homebrew toehold is found in the first-gen firmware, but I probably won't have the patience to hold out. :)

Probably a watchdog timer. If the watchdog doesn't get touched after a few seconds (ie. the OS is deadlocked) it probably forces a hard shutdown. Inelegant, but not so much so as a reset button.
