Now I am just missing HDD support, that I still need more information, because I do not have one (I own a PS2 slim) and a friend of mine that have one, told me each game is a partition and the filesystem is kind of strange. The PS2 HDD filesystem is split into two separate logical device groups. On...

From the readme it is noted that the ESR launch was untested so I decided to test it. This is an obvious test to make, but for this case it was probably doomed from the start, as kernel loading is one of the few things that should replace every single system vector throughout the entire system... T...

The infamous toolchain installation :) ---- edited BTW: Search the forums for the installable SDK by LBGSHI if you're using Windows. Another alternative for Windows XP users is the Cygwin+PS2Dev installation package I released a few days ago. This is based on a Cygwin release from january 2006, whi...

Thanks for your report. I think this will help people to decide to use it or not. But at least it is now a DVD and everybody can easily try it, even if there are some restrictions on use or usabilty. Yes, I agree that PS2 Linux is now much more accesible than before, but this also means that many m...

Re: Playstation 2 Linux Live DVD
To get around all the USB problems on the slim PSTwo, I created a Live Linux DVD. I used the files from deba5er to create it. There is no modchip required. I don't know if this works when you have modchip. File: ps2livedvd_v1.zip http://sourceforge.net/projects/kernelloader/files/ I have tested the...

It is indeed true that ffgriever has written an emulator known as PS2PSXe, which as yet is available only to a limited set of handpicked beta testers, including myself. This emulator already has the same level of compatibility as the emulators for PC known as PCSX and ePSXe, which means that nearly ...

Re: Why is network speed so very slow on PS2
Hello, Why is the transfer speed from PS2 to PC so very slow in program like ftp and also other? is it because of some limitation in PS2 hardware or is it because of unoptimized tcp/ip stack? if so, what is the bottleneck, do you know? In most cases it is due to unoptimized programming, which can b...

Apparently it would not be possible for him to design an H.264 decoder producing both decent resolution and decent frame rate, due to limitations of the PS2 resources. I'm not really qualified to verify that as fact myself, but I'm perfectly willing to rely on EEUG's judgment in such things. What h...

Version wise, I have no clue. I put a flip top case on it years and years ago (probably going on 8 years now) and tossed the original case out a few years back, unless theres some other way to find out, taking it apart is fine, I usually tear it apart and blow it out a couple times a year, and it's...

EEUG, you could edit the driver without the transfer speed limit and recompile it with ps2sdk About this I'll say three things: 1: It is not a question of any explicit limit that can be removed, but a matter of difficult optimization in order to raise transfer speed of any interface. 2: EEUG has al...

Why do I find Linux so appealing and so difficult to migrate to? I've had a partition with a linux distro on about every computer I've owned. I think it's more or less just coincidence. In order to activate the bug for homebrew: You need a newer pstwo. dev9 enabled prior to enabling usb/spu2 will cause only the last dma channel enabled to work. usb or spu2 enabled prior to dev9, should cause only the last two enabled channels to work. I ...

I took some time and went through all the modules in ps2sdk. The usbd, ahx, and freesd modules seem to be the only modules that use the pcr2 register directly. The ps2dev9 module uses dmacman, though. Here's the list of the bit settings for pcr2 that are in ps2sdk: 1 << 27, 0x08000000 is usb ohci c...

I wonder why all these modules didn't use dmacman? But maybe it's bugged in newer ps2's as well... You can try importing dmacman's dmac_get_dpcr2() and see if it returns 0 as well. Hmmm. Actually the fact that this function is NOT bugged might be the reason why no games have been reported to have a...

@Mega Man: @deba5er: I believe that this new discovery Mega Man made, of a previously read_write register now being write_only in newer PSTwo models, warrants both further investigation and a proper fix at a deeper system level. Simply patching a single module or two, so as to add some set bits (by ...

I think it is possible to move the USB driver from Linux to IOP side. The old Wii Linux uses a similar solution. So the ps2sdk usbd.irx can be used. I already did this for network. This may be easier than debugging deadlocks. I agree that this does sound like the best solution, as the current USBD ...

@deba5er: I don't have a solution for you, but considering which console models are involved, and that only USB errors are involved, this inescapably reminds me of the problems experienced when using CodeBreaker on these consoles. CodeBreaker does work on both of them, but on a v14 or later model it...

Re: Running game and ps2dev9.irx + ps2ip.irx simultaneously
Hello. I'm to run TCP/IP server and PS2 game on my PS2 simultaneously. There appears to be a problem: when I reset IOP using an image on cdrom by SifIopReset("rom0:UDNL cdrom0:\\<myiopimg>;1", 0), it can't load ps2dev9.irx. Here you need to realize that ps2dev9.irx is one of the drivers y...

I, personally, don't believe that legacy functions should be retained indefinitely. While it may make sense to do so in a library that is used commercially or has a large user-base, I feel that it needlessly complicates things for little gain, in this case. Though it was I who raised this backwards...

I can confirm that the fixes for rev 1660 again allow the current PS2SDK to be used for the USBLoader project, except that three references to the GetSyscall function had to be edited to use the new name GetSyscallHandler instead. I agree with the logic behind that rename (considering the other 'Han...
