No

The PS2 had the closest thing to GPGPU of it time, and it wasn't really the GPU but rather the outboard VPU's (vector processors) that fed the GPU. But it worked on the same principle as todays programmable pixel engines and shaders - SIMD. Regardless, the computing power is not there in either syst...

It seems that if Sony wanted to deter people from using Linux to boot their game ISO's they should simply make their games use every core of the cell processor... Actually we can be pretty sure Sony isn't worried about anything like this, at least in the context of dev community's RSX hacks. Its no...

There are a couple of possibilities at play here: 1. The 3D access could be on a list of pre-determined things that contractually must be blocked. What if, for example, there is an arrangement between Sony and Nvidia such that RSX access license is rolled up into Sony's developer license fees? Not s...

I think you are on a slippery slope here... If you start aiming at what a game console needs, and thus directly or indirectly aiming at supporting games in linux, you can pretty much guarantee that the very first thing Sony will do is find a way to shut you off, changing the hypervisor in ways that...

I've been meaning to talk to you about that, actually. I've been reaching closer and closer to my limit lately. This month really stung me as the usage was about 20x higher than normal for some unknown reason and I almost ended up with a rather large overage bill. Decentralization is both a curse a...

Cell is something new and not here yet. People with optimism and vision on this and want to contribute are far and few in between. Just as the PSP forums started out on the wild side, it might be useful to give great leniency to how things are done on the cell forums until we can see where things go...

Actually, I am pretty sure the dev9 bus doesn't have digital audio on it since it seems to be very much a type of PCMCIA or PCI variant bus with extra power for HDD. However, the network adaptor that has a modem on it should be able to be configured for A/D. I have a data sheet on the chip someplace...

I have much the same interests in how Cell can be used for computational programming. However, as you expressed it, your interests are not even necessarily related to PS3DEV, whatever that will end up being, but related more to "CellDev". Granted, once "ps3dev" forums get added t...

Well for those who ahve one, i might suggest buying swap magic japan version, or maybe pro loader. they seem to have elf loaders in them, and i think at last one of them can boot a USB elf. Actually I tried this last summer and it does work. I used it to boot ps2link quite fine from a USB mass stor...

Sony knows exactly what they want and what they are doing when they do odd one-off things like: Linux Kit for PS2 or the PSX PVR sold only in Japan. They learn alot from doing those things, even if they do not intend to make money off of them. They may or may not do similar things in the future, but...

On the same note, FFVII: Advent Children UMD also requires 2.0 firmware before playing on the JPN PSP.

From now on I will not buy any UMD titles that require firmware upgrades. Heck, probably not many more new games I can buy either...

Voltage isn't "used up" by devices, current is. Plus what usually happens when charging portable devices is that they continue to draw power from the battery while it is being charged - they're not drawing power direct from the mains. I never said anything about voltage, except to describ...

It is normal for just about any equipment with rechargeable batteries to recharge slower when turned on and used. How slow depends on many factors. In order to recharge a battery, there must be excess power delivered by the power supply beyond that used for the device's immediate usage by you. Keep ...

The PS1 has way too little memory for linux - even embedded linux. Most dev sites related to the PS1 are very old and links may or may not still work. Here's a couple old PS1 dev sites. http://dev.paradogs.com/docs.html http://www.syncscroller.net/psx/psx-index.html The first system I ever ran Linu...

Hopefully this doesn't become a habit again, but I might as well chime in... What made PS2DEV special, and set it apart, is that its not about cracking. Back :)

Due to a huge amount of time I was putting into ps2dev (mostly forums) I decided to disappear for a couple of months. Amazing what a difference it can make to rid oneself of forums addiction.

Anyhow, I just wanted to say hi. :) (posted in off-topic in order to be on topic :)
