I don't mean to be rude, but perhaps you should ask these questions in the official YDL forum at www.yellowdog-board.com. This forum is oriented towards software developers and not for basic support. Good luck.

lougv22: Check out command "ps3-video-mode". Also consider reinstalling as it should be possible to boot up a desktop environment such as Enlightenment or Gnome, not just the command line. By the way -- if you're new to Linux -- perhaps this forum is a bit too advanced for these type of qu...

This part really pisses me off... I have a 300 GB drive in my PS3, but I STILL can only devote 10 GB to one side or the other. I want to split the drive evenly, dammit!! :X How hard would it be to just add one more option: 10 GB to GameOS, 10 GB to OTHEROS, or split evenly. Just that much would mak...

Here's a summary of the steps: 1. Backup your game data because it will be erased by the disk partitioning. 2. Decide whether to assign 10GB to the GameOS or to the OtherOS; as there are currently no other choices the rest of the disk space is assigned to the other one. 3. Partition and format the d...

I'm not much of a game player, so I installed Linux before I even saved my first game :-P

Anyway, YDL 6.1 is based on CentOS, which I believe is once (or twice) removed from Red Hat. Besides RPM's, it also accepts apt and other package managers so it should work out fine.

I started out on YDL 5.02, then Fedora 9 and recently moved to YDL 6.1. Fedora 10 is out already and is great if you're going to be hacking away at the kernel or the apps that come with it, the reason being the fast development cycle those guys keep. I had a hard time getting Ubuntu 7.10 to install,...

What they have done is include the ps3vram patch/feature as part of the distro. Same old patch, I believe.

I'm not familiar with Gentoo so I can't help you there, although I've read elsewhere that it's very PS3 friendly. However, the above tips are kernel level and XFCE is ubiquitous so therefore should work with any Linux distro. I forgot to mention one more tip: 5) Keep your partitions simple (no LVM, ...

I have been using Fedora 9 successfully for the past few months. I got decent performance by doing the following: 1) Customized the kernel to eliminate any unneeded drivers and features, activated most PS3 specific features and converted most of the needed features to loadable modules (instead of in...
